Anime Spotlight: Barakamon

Hello everyone. I hope you are all doing well. I had a really low moment on Wednesday night. I felt like I was really wasting my life and it really brought me down. I cried in my backyard that night, but I have been slowly feeling better. One of the things that would put a smile on my face during these past few days is an anime called Barakamon, and I want to briefly talk about it.

Barakamon follows Seishuu Handa, a calligraphy prodigy living in Tokyo, Japan who is quite intelligent and handsome to boot. However, Seishuu is also incredibly arrogant. At a calligraphy show, Seishuu punches a veteran calligrapher for referring to his work as basic and uninspired. As a result of Seishuu’s actions, his father sends him to an island far removed from Tokyo’s concrete jungle. Seishuu must learn to get used to his new home and find new inspiration for his calligraphy. During his time on the island, Seishuu develops strong bonds and friendships with the island’s adults and children, especially the energetic and care-free six-year-old girl Naru.

Barakamon is a funny anime, but also one full of emotion, heart and invaluable life-lessons. The characters are full of life and the visual style is relaxing. The music accentuates everything the anime exudes, and all of this creates an experience that is truly fun, calm, entertaining and down-to-earth. Check out the trailer below to get an idea of what to expect from the anime.

Thank you all for reading. This was a short one, but all the “Anime Spotlight” articles have been of this length. I am sure it is refreshing to see a post from me that is short in length. I hope you all have a fantastic day and I will see you all in the next blog post.

Sincerely Yours,
Kojo Essah
